Sometimes, the settings on your local device or the browser that you choose to use can interfere with the LOGIN procedure. It seems to be most common on those devices configured to store your browsing history, passwords, and prior site visits.

Y E S!! It is possible that your settings are contributing to your inability to successfully LOGIN, especially the first time. IF you have the problem and try more than 3 times and fail, the security settings on our website will not allow further attempts for up to an hour. This helps to protect against unauthorized attacks, hacksm and brute-force attempt by roBOTs (“BOTs”).

Here’s what you can do to over come the potential issues:
  1. Check and change your browser’s settings so that when you exit (close) the browser, it automatically clears:
    browsing and download history,
    cookies,
    cached images and files,
    passwords and other sign-in data,
auto-fill form data, hosted app data.

Not all browsers have all of these settings. They are typically located in your browsers’ control panel (or equivalent). This is also a good practice as it will improve security of your device and future browsing of the internet.
  2. IF you failed more than 4 consecutive times in about a one hour period, you might receive a message telling you that you are “blocked” and how many minutes you need to wait to retry. This is a system generated security feature to help prevent “hackers” or roBOTs (“BOTs”) from getting in using your USED ID. Wait the specified time then retry.
  3. IF you already successfully changed your PASSWORD, do NOT use the link that you responded to in the LOGIN DETAILS email that you received. GO DIRECTLY TO THE WEBSITE.
  4. CLICK the LOGIN tab in the top menu and follow directions. Remember:
    • Accurately enter your USER ID that was emailed to you
    • Properly enter your PASSWORD, which is case sensitive (upper and lower case characters are meaningful)
    • Accurately enter the CAPTCHA information. Be careful not to confuse the numeral ZERO (“0”) and the letter O (“O”). Doing so will cause a failure.
  5. IF you get a failure at that point, start over. You will be permitted 3 failed attempts. Thereafter you will again be locked out for an hour.
Still having problems?
  1. Tried everything but no idea?  OK, take a deep breath and relax. We know you are frustrated at this point… so are we.
  2. CLICK HERE and fill out the form entirely.
    • Enter your phone number in case you need to be contacted. Enter best time to call in the the first line of your message.
    • Include in your message the device (name, type, model) you are using, the Operating System and version, browser (i.e., FireFox, Chrome, IE, Safari, etc.), and your USER ID (but not your password).
    • IF we determine that it might be necessary to reset your password, we will do so and you will again receive an email telling you it has been reset .
    • Follow the instructions but if you don’t you can go directly to the site and try to LOGIN. The system should force you to change your password. Remember to CLEAR the entire contents of the existing password displayed on your screen and carefully enter your new password: at least 8 characters, at least one upper case, at least one lower case, and a at least one special character (!,#,$).

NOTE: 05/08/2020 – These features are operational and MEMBER credentials have been assigned and distributed.

In order to be eligible for Online Credentials:
  1. You must be a member in good standing (dues paid current, no outstanding issues)
  2. You must provide a unique and valid email address as part of your Membership Application
  3. email addresses can only be used by ONE member and not shared with others. For example, each Family Member must have their own email address to qualify for Online Credentials assigned to each person.
  4. If you have changed your email address, be certain that you have conveyed that information to the Secretary if you have NOT yet established your credentials.
What you should expect once you are a Member in good standing

Once the Membership Application (or Change of Information) has been received, The Secretary and Treasurer will verify that you are eligible for Online Credentials. They will trigger a series of automated actions:

  1. You information will be added to the Membership portion of the Website. Assuming that the email address you provided is not already in the database and associated with a different person, the process will continue. Otherwise, manual intervention is required.
  2. An automated email will be generated to you at the email address you provided informing you of your USER NAME and instructions to activate your Online Credentials.
  3. You MUST follow the instructions in order to activate your Online Credentials and set your new password.
  4. IF you do not respond properly to the email, your credential link will become invalid after a few days. This will require manual intervention to re-issue your offer of Online Credentials.
  5. Once you respond properly to the instructions including clicking on the designated link in the email, your credentials will become active.
What If I Can’t LOGIN after properly responding? Now What?

There’s any number of situation that could cause this, but here’s a few of the most common:

  1. Make sure that you clicked on the link in that email and followed the instructions, including changing your PASSWORD to a “Strong” one.
  2. Be certain that you are using the correct USER ID provided in the email that you were sent.
  3. When you click on the “login” link after changing your PASSWORD, be certain to enter the correct USER ID and the correct PASSWORD: passwords are case sensitive so be certain to enter the password exactly as you did when you changed it.
  4. IF you try too many times and get “locked out” the system will allow you to try again after 30 minutes. This is a security feature to reduce hacking by roBOTs.
  5. Tried everything but no idea? CLICK HERE and fill out the form entirely. Enter your phone number in case you need to be contacted. Enter best time to call in the the first line of your message. Include in your message the device (name, type, model) you are using, the Operating System and version, browser (i.e., FireFox, Chrome, IE, Safari, etc.), and your USER ID (but not your password).
  6. IF we determine that it might be necessary to reset your password, we will do so and you will again receive an email telling you it has been reset . Follow the instructions but if you don’t you can go directly to the site and try to LOGIN. The system should force you to change your password. Remember to CLEAR the entire contents of the existing password displayed on your screen and carefully enter your new password: at least 8 characters, at least one upper case, at least one lower case, and a at least one special character (!,#,$).
  7. IF this fails again, more research will be needed and we will respond to your second request with a phone call as time permits.

You bet there is. Non-playing members are critical to the support of WJU’s mission: preservation of, education about and performance of traditional American circus music and music of the Wild West Shows.

Did you know?

Founding Member Art Stensvad (WJU #002) was a non-playing member and railroader from North Platte, NE. His story, along with many other non-playing members, is fascinating.

How you can help as a non-Playing member.

We need your talents and skills in many areas. You can join and participate casually at events or become more actively involved with us. Don’t underestimate how your talents can actively support WJU throughout the year. We need talent in these areas:

Chances are that you play one or more instruments that are appropriate for traditional circus music bands. Read on…

Traditional Circus Bands have these Instruments.

Merle Evans, the foremost Bandleader with 50 years at the helm at Ringling Bros. Barnum & Baily Circus, defined traditional circus music as music that is brighter in tone than other music. As brass bands became more in vogue during the 19th Century, circus bands became more dominated by these instruments. Today, WJU Circus Concert Bands and Circus Music Bands are chiefly comprised of:

MYWJU Windjammers Circus Music
Play & Record Session
  • Alto Horn
  • Clarinet
  • Cornet/Trumpet
  • Euphonium/Baritone
  • Flute
  • French Horn
  • Oboe
  • Percussion
  • Piccolo
  • Sax
  • Trombone
  • Tuba
Other Instruments have also been used to augment traditional Bands.

Over the years, specialty instruments have been used for various arrangements, acts, and compositions. Among them:

  • Calliope
  • Organ
  • Synthesizers
  • Others

We communicate more and more via email and our website. Our 2019 Member Survey showed that an overwhelming majority of MEMBERS want increased online capability including MEMBERS ONLY SECTIONS, EVENT REGISTRATION and PAYMENT, and many others.

To do so requires you to supply a valid and unique email address that you do not share with another WJU Member. This requirement is especially important for “Family” members.

You also must maintain your official WJU Online Profile once it is established. Should you change your email address, you will need to contact the Administrative team so that they can update your records and re-cast your online credentials once they are updated with the new email address. Your email address is the key to your WJU Online Identity.

How we use your email address

We use your email address to conduct the ordinary business of WJU:

  1. Send you important information, updates, or documents from time to time.
  2. Provide you with Online Credentials so that you may access the MEMBERS ONLY sections of the website
  3. Reduce administrative costs to WJU by eliminating paper and US Mail which continues to skyrocket in price.
  4. Improve the speed with which we can respond to your needs.

ABSOULTELY NOT!!

NO! There is a host of content covering Preservation, Education and Performance available to anyone that visits our website. BUT, there is even more material available to those who successfully LOGIN.

Who is issued LOGIN Credentials?

All members in good standing who provide a valid email address are eligible to receive LOGIN credentials. CURRENT MEMBERS and those who have already received their credentials continue to have their valid LOGIN for as long as they remain members in good standing.

IF a NEW Member Registers ONLINE and Pays for their membership ONLINE, they may receive credentials within a matter of minutes. Anyone who becomes a NEW member by sending in their paper form and/or payment via USPS might experience a delay until all is processed and then passed on to the Online Membership System.

Your initial LOGIN USER ID is and forever remains your email address that you provide at the time of Membership sign-up. Whilst you may change your email address, your USER ID cannot at this time be changed.

What are the advantages of having and using a valid LOGIN?

There are several, too many to list but here’s a few:

  • Access to RESTRICTED Content – Circus Fanfare from the first 1971 issue through the end of last year; ability to see Membership Directory (contains ALL Members who have an email address);
  • Enhanced Search Capability – YOUR search will include restricted content not available to the Public. Try it sometime: don’t LOGIN and search for Karl King. Notice the results do NOT include the actual Circus Fanfare Issues that have the articles themselves, but only the INDEX Page references.
  • Self-serve Membership Maintenance & Renewal – Ability to RENEW your membership safely and conveniently ONLINE. You can also securely pay your annual fees, and change your Membership Level (i.e., INDividual to FAMily, etc.)

What is CAPTCHA?

CAPTCHA is an industry standard way to help protect sites from hacker attacks primarily using roBOTs (“BOTS”).

What are the benefits of a CAPTCHA form of validation?

Essentially CAPTCHAs deter hackers from abusing online services because they block robot software from submitting fake or nefarious online requests. Using CAPTCHA helps to protect the integrity of online polls by stopping hackers using robots to send in repeated false responses. It may also prevent hackers from gaining access to YOUR account and changing or otherwise using your access for nefarious purposes.

Why Multiple CAPTCHAs sometimes, but not others?

On MYWJU.org you might be asked to enter up to TWO sets of CAPTCHA responses as shown below.  This is random and further helps to protect the site from potential nefarious acts.

CAPTCHAs are case sensitive so be certain to enter the characters exactly as presented. AND, be careful to enter a ZERO (“0”) or LETTER O (“O”) without confusing the two, or an error will result.

What happens if I don’t enter the CAPTCHA response properly?

IF a person fails to properly enter the CAPTCHA responses 3 times, their account may be locked for 20 minutes or more. This is an inconvenience when an honest mistake is made but prevents automated hacking machines, BOTs, from getting in by testing combinations of passwords, etc.  Many commercial websites, as you likely know, use similar features.

A little Background
Example of Browser

Some Web browsers (i.e., Chrome, FireFox, MS-Edge, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.) provide security options that you set on your device or account. Likewise, some Security Software (i.e., McAfee, Norton, TotalAV, etc.) have settings that you control and tune to disallow certain websites from automatically popping open as they might be compromised.

Unfortunately, we have no control over your personal security settings and there are certain circumstances that those browser and software controls will flag as a potential problem… rightfully so. Our website uses commercially available protocols to protect against compromise, but there is never a guarantee that a breach cannot occur nor to absolutely ensure that someone with malicious intent is prevented from hacking our site.

Why It Might be Happening During Transition to NEW Website
Example of Software

You might be getting the message since we switched over to our new website on 30APR2020. We developed our NEW site under a new URL (mywju.org) so that the old site continued to operate unimpeded at circusmusic.org. Without getting into all the techno mumbo jumbo, in simple terms, we told the internet to point circusmusic.org to mywju.org. In other words, we redirected the URL to the new site. AND BAM! That is one of the things that the security systems look at to determine if there is a possible problem… and there is no automated facility that determines IF this is a legitimate “redirect” or one that is malicious.

SO, you could get a message warning of a potential security problem with the website you are about to visit. Everyone should be vigilant and know precisely what sites they are visiting on the internet… and check the URL (the web address in the browser) to make sure it is the proper one. If you are confident that the site is legitimate, you can make the decision to proceed to it by clicking the appropriate options.

WJU’s website will continue to be accessible by entering either:
circusmusic.org (which is now redirected to the new content)
or,
mywju.org (where the actual NEW site content is located).

We will continue to publicize circusmusic.org to the public. After several months, we will perform some additional maintenance on the technical mumbo jumbo that should prevent the warnings.
